It is not the responsibility of the Sheriff to make up the law. The Sheriff enforces the law. ICE detention requests must be upheld to keep our communities safe.

As we have seen recently in Texas, an armed citizen can immediately react to a threat sooner than the time it takes law enforcement to respond. Law Enforcement has an obligation to educate, provide training, and to protect our citizens in the event of an active shooter.  Working "together", the Sheriff's Department can enhance the safety of the citizens in Travis County.

We should support those experiencing homelessness; however, we should not create a system where clear violations of the law are not enforced. We must stop the violent crime experienced both within and outside the homeless community. It is our duty to protect and serve "all" citizens of Travis County with dignity and respect.

An officer equipped with rigorous training, proper guidance and development, will ensure sound judgement thus increasing the safety of officers and the public at large.

The Sheriff is a public servant. When elected, Raul pledges to make the operations of the Department as transparent as possible. He believes in an "Open Door" policy for both employees and citizens of Travis County.
